Staying Motivated and Helping Others

This month we’re asking program users to tell us how they stay motivated when training with our brain fitness products and what we can do to improve the user experience to help. Take a minute to post your response to the following two questions. After you've posted, you'll receive automatic updates every time someone else posts a response.

  1. What do you do to stay motivated when training with your brain fitness program?

  2. What about the product helps you stay motivated? (Example, the Recommended Schedule in InSight or the Session Summary in the Brain Fitness Program)

silly I’m happy to share my experience
In general, I really like to countdown training time. When I begin training, I like to know how much more training I have left to reach my goal. When I am in the middle of an exercise, I like to know how much time I have left in that exercise. Knowing how much time I have left helps me focus.

    1. To stay motivated, I track the time I have left in the overall schedule, or in a specific exercise
    2. In InSight, I stay motivated by focusing on the exercise I like the most (Jewel Diver). Jewel Diver is challenging, but I'm pretty good at it, so it's fun. If I lose my motivation, I tell myself to keep going so I can get to Jewel Diver again in the schedule.

happy I’m happy and thankful for the program
I am motivated by the positive results I have acheived in completing the original Brain Fittness program three times and Insight once. I am more productive at work, solve problems more easily, all memory functions are better and I generally feel more positive about my future. My Audiologist thinks that by using the Brain Fitness program I have been able to adapt more readily to hearing aids and make more effective use of them.

I find that I need to create "scenario" games, for sound replay and Listen and Do.
I give the characters names and relationships, and create a story line.
Sometimes I have to acknowledge that I'm not feeling as resilient as I have other days and then just keep on going, knowing that I'm likely going to go backwards in some areas.
If I'm tired I realized that I'll likely do much worse than if I am awake and alert.
Also, I take breaks and get up and walk around; have some nuts and some water, and look out the window to change my perspective.
I'd love to see more variety in the pictures and animations (also the names of the animals.) I know them all now so I hardly watch them...NEW is what is stimulating.

happy I’m interested to hear what others think
I know motivation can come from within, so I try tapping into the feeling of being motivated. The feeling I get can be described as energized, productive and inspired to push myself. When I’m motivated and working towards a goal, I often realize the chase of the goal can be as fun and engaging as the achievement. Maintaining awareness of this process is a choice and is a quality of life issue. Being a happier, more engaged and aware person makes me a better partner, father, friend and colleague.
    • All this talk about motivation is making me want to get back to my Brain Fitness Program which I've not made time for lately! Just being here in this community makes me feel motivated. Being in a productive environment where people support each other in achieving the same end is motivating in and of itself! Thanks to everyone!

P.S. I break the BFP up into 'chunks'...that is I do one or two exercises at a time and the next time I work on it I just click Continue Previous Session and pick up where I left off. This seems less overwhelming to me since I have a very busy schedule.

I do not have a problem with being motivated to use the program. I enjoy it and look forward to it each day. I am using Insight.

The game aspect of three of the five exercises in Insight I find very motivating. I dislike the two exercises that deal with jewels and birds. I find them just work and stressful. I keep glancing to see how much time is left. But with the other three, I enjoy planning my moves and the time goes very quickly. I'm motivated to do jewels and birds in order that I can play with the others.

ps. I have never understood the scores for any of the exercises and totally disregard them.

    silly I’m fatigued
Sitting down for a whole hour of brain fitness exercises seems like a daunting task sometimes. How bad is it not to complete an hour of exercises at one sitting? I want the benefits of the exercises, but find it difficult to schedule in a whole hour at a time. This is one reason I loved the 60 second game that came in the latest newsletter. It was a quick and fun brain tune up. Any opinions about doing half the exercises at a time, instead of all of them?
