FAQ: Training on multiple computers & switching computers & reinstallingBrain Fitness Program
We understand that you may need to reinstall the program, or you might want to train on multiple computers, and we're pretty flexible. You can install and train on multiple computers within your household. If you have a 1-user version, that user can install on multiple computers. If you have a 2-user version, each user can install on multiple computers.* However, once a user has started training, it is not advisable to switch computers because the user data is stored locally on the computer. If you must switch computers, or switch back and forth between computers for travel or other reasons, you have a choice. Either you can go through the training schedule twice, once on each computer, or you can go through the manual process of transferring your user data back and forth each time you switch using a flash drive. We've provided instructions for data transfer for PC here and Mac here, however we don't support this process. If something goes awry, or you need help, our support staff won't be able to provide assistance.**
*This flexibility does not allow more users than the number you have purchased. It does mean that the licensed user can train on multiple computers, or switch computers as needed. If you would like to purchase additional users for your household, please contact Sales at 1-866-599-6463 or +1-415-373-5685.
**It is not possible to transfer data between Mac OSX and PC Windows.
InSight/DriveSharp
InSight/DriveSharp are different than Brain Fitness Program because they are portable.* Your user data is stored locally on your computer, but if you're connected to the internet when you exit your training, the data is also uploaded to our servers. This data is accessible to you from any computer where InSight/DriveSharp is installed. You can install InSight/DriveSharp on any computer you'd like to train on. After you install, you'll simply need to sign in with your existing username and password. The program will prompt you to "Switch Computer" and you'll follow the prompts to download your user data.
*InSight version 1.0 does not offer this portability feature. To switch computers using InSight version 1.0, please see these instructions.
A comment on the question "Can I skip exercises in the Brain Fitness Program?" in Posit Science:
Hi Barbara - I apologize for the problem printing and downloading. We use a service called Scribd and sometimes it has a few performance issues. In any case, I'll give you a quick answer. You can't choose exercises upfront. However, you can skip the exercises you don't want to do . You can skip exercises by 1) start the exercise 2) click "pause/exit" 3) click "skip this exercise" and 4) click "go to next exercise". – Arielle, on March 11, 2010 20:09

Arielle replied on March 11, 2010 20:01 to the question "Tracking Progress Systematically" in Posit Science:
Thanks for clarifying, KM. I'm still trying to find out more about where to direct you regarding our IMPACT outcomes measures. However, I'm pretty sure that these require administration by a professional. The scientists I've asked are traveling right now, so it might be a while before I can get an answer.
Based on your comments, it seems like our products may already track the metrics you are looking for. I would highly recommend reading each exercise section in our Coach's Guide. This will give you a detailed view of how each exercise works.
I really don't recommend tracking points and levels in BFP. Success is a moving target because the program is always trying to keep you training at "threshold" or the ability to get 80% correct. If you get 100% correct, you're not training at threshold. There is limited assessment technology built in to BFP. It is mostly a training technology. The metrics in the program that track levels and points are mostly just showing your progression through the training program. However, at the end of 40 sessions, the program compares your scores in the beginning and the end to give you overall improvement in cognitive functions.
One of the first challenges you are likely to face with your training is finding a training schedule that works for you. It is important to train consistently in an engaged manner. However, the exercises are very repetitive and can feel tiresome and boring. It will be helpful to you to determine environmental elements that enable your best focus. For example, time of day, before or after meals, 5 minute meditation or stretching breaks every 15 minutes, etc.
I would also recommend choosing something in your life where you'd like to see real improvement. I know this isn't necessarily "objective", however this is truly what counts. Are you a musician? Are you learning a foreign language? Do you frequently socialize and need to remember new names? Do you recall information as quickly during conversations? Choosing an activity that would benefit from improvements in memory, focus, and processing speed, and taking note of changes in your performance will help you see your results.

A comment on the update "We are no longer offering headphones with Brain Fitness Program" in Posit Science:
sharvo6 – We’ve always supplied headphones as a bonus. The cost of Brain Fitness Program matches the cost of InSight, which has never shipped with headphones. We have always been unable to accommodate refunds for headphones for the several customers who actually don’t want them (the cost is negligible and is not reflected in the cost of the software). We're a small company and we care about our customers, which is why we are having this discussion out in the open. We are more than a "supplier". We are a company of people that care. – Arielle, on March 10, 2010 19:22

Actually, we had a processing problem with the new prints of our guides. These are being reprinted and replaced as we speak. However, we ran out of headphones as scheduled and are continuing to ship the old guides for the next couple of days. – Arielle, on March 09, 2010 22:16

Hi Stephen - Our products can be helpful for any adult who would like to improve their speed of processing, focus, and memory. I'd suggest starting with InSight based on your age. The graphics and levels of challenge are more complex than Brain Fitness Program. You can play Jewel Diver, one of the five InSight exercises, in this demo.

Hi Josephine - Thanks for the update. I think this will require a phone call. Would it be possible for you to call our tech support line between 7 AM and 4 PM Pacific time? +1-415-373-5685. We don't have a toll free international number, however we can call you back immediately to cover the cost of the call. – Arielle, on March 09, 2010 19:56

Hi Lefty - The headphones have always been considered a bonus item, and we are simply not including this item in the future. We've heard from many customers who would rather use their own equipment, and we are committed to making our package size more environmentally friendly. – Arielle, on March 09, 2010 19:36-

Hi KM - It's important to create an environment without distractions, where you can focus and hear the stimuli clearly. We do have some users who prefer to achieve this in a quiet setting at home with good speakers, and this is perfectly ok. – Arielle, on March 09, 2010 18:57

We are no longer offering headphones with Brain Fitness ProgramPosit Science is no longer offering headphones with Brain Fitness Program.
In an effort to ship smaller and more environmentally friendly packages, we have decided to discontinue offering headphones. We recommend using any headphones that feel comfortable. If you already have a pair of headphones, they will most likely work for your Brain Fitness Program training. Please note that "noise-cancelling" headphones are not recommended.
Some features that we've found to be helpful are:
1. headphones that fit over the ear to help reduce outside noise
2. headphones that have a volume control feature, like a volume slider on the cord
Headphones similar to those we have discontinued (Koss-UR29-Collapsible-Portable-Headphones) can be purchased at Amazon for about $20 USD.

A comment on the idea "Make 'brain fitness' more customizable and more fun" in Posit Science:
Hi Patricia - Thanks for clarifying. I have been relaying this feedback regarding age-related norms back to our developers as it comes in. To be fair, Grace did use the present tense when she asked if age-norms are used, so I read it as a question as well as a suggestion. I appreciate your suggestion to other users to voice their input on this feature. Thanks for your help. Someone else just suggested this in our ideas category, so we're also tracking interest at the following link:

Quoting Grace:
is a scanning done to the program, or is it "one program fits all"?
